Please note that some questions must be answered, as marked with an *.

AGAMA BiogasPro digester is a rural waste to energy solution.

Contact details

Liquid feed into the AGAMA BiogasPro digester

AGAMA recommend that you separate the black and grey water, as grey water has very little content that can produce biogas.  As a guideline, in urban areas for each person we estimate

  • 50 litres of black (toilet) water per day, and
  • 150 litres of grey water per day.

Several AGAMA BiogasPros can be installed in line with each other for higher usage.

Animal wastes into the digester
AGAMA BiogasPro digesters produce excellent gas from animal manures fed to the digester in addition to wet waste.

number of cows
number of pigs
number of chickens
number of horses
number of goats
number of sheep
Use of biogas from the digester

AGAMA Biogas recommends using the biogas for cooking.  There are a few applications where we would be happy to specify using the biogas for an alternate use such as water heating if there are no cooking needs.

Use of the liquid overflow from the digester - (digestate)

If black water is added to the AGAMA BiogasPro, it must comply with local laws for sanitation. This may require the liquid overflow to go into the existing sewer, or a soakaway or similar treatment system. In South Africa this falls under the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF).

If no human sewerage is added, the liquid will be perfectly suitable for fertilising vegetable gardens. If human sewerage is used, then further ( expensive ) treatment is required before the water can be used for irrigation.

If you answer 'Yes' then a comprehensive wastewater treatment system MAY be necessary

AGAMA BiogasPro - Engineered for performance...

. Posted in About US

AGAMA Biogas has many years of experience of biogas in South Africa. AGAMA Biogas has built many units over a period of more than a decade and found that the risk of biogas leaking from inadequate sealing was extremely high when there was no experienced, supervision during construction. As a result, we decided to remove the risk of failure ( through leaking ) by designing a fully prefabricated digester. AGAMA Biogas is a member of the South African Pipeline Gas Association (SAPGA)

The AGAMA BiogasPro digesters are prefabricated waste-to-energy solutions.  The BiogasPro is a unique, patented system that is engineered, designed and manufactured in South Africa for African conditions. The AGAMA BiogasPro is also the first small digester to achieve certification by the South African Pipeline Gas Association (SAPGA) - you can view the details here.

The AGAMA BiogasPro SmartTop is a hybrid unit that is ideally suited for rural installations, installed by qualified tradesmen. This only works where a skilled and experienced construction team builds the base to the highest quality, and the Smart Top is properly connected to the base. A smaller, fibreglass unit called the LightTop will be made available in 2013 to large projects where the project nmanagers have extensive biogas experience. The first program with this is in KwazuluNatal and is being implemented by Khanyisa Projects.

We at AGAMA have many examples of our digesters working. We are also acutely aware that any digester failures may impact on the industry as a whole. To ensure that we play our part in building the biogas industry, we encourage use of the fully prefabricated BiogasPro 6 for individual and DIY applications. The key opportunities for the AGAMA SmartTop and AGAMA LightTop are in larger-scale programmes where the benefits of increased local content for materials and labour can be achieved with installation by qualified construction and installation teams. We can only supply these to project managers who have biogas experience.
