Alternative Energy South Africa

Even though biogas has such potential in a developing country, like our own, it is a largely unknown technology...

Below is a link to a very thorough article describing the large array of benefit of biogas.

Organic waste is one of the untapped sources of natural energy available today. “It’s a simple solution that can be deployed in as quickly as three days but people don’t know too much about it”, says Jonathan de Magalhães.

It ends off with the relevant questions:

"Why can't we follow India and China's model? Why does government not provide any support, even in light of the overwhelming positive evidence?"

I am interested to know when distributed infrastructure, such as small-scale biogas digesters, will be embraced within the context of national infrastructure programmes...

The comment by Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba on the State of the Nation Address points the way, sadly without grasping the opportunities which lie in these distributed infrastructure programmes.... "We believe that through the public infrastructure programme, we are not only testing our ability to facilitate cross-pollination between the public and private sectors, but will be writing a growth story that is unique to the South African context."

    A luta continua...
