2nd AGAMA BiogasPro3 starts operating

AGAMA BiogasPro 3 was seeded (started) on 11th March 2013 in Cape Town to become the 2nd BP3 system in South Africa that is being fed.

It was started with seeding material from Avantu Sustainable Solutions under the expert guidance of Mark Tunstall. AGAMA will be reviewing if this seeding improves the usual time to first burnable gas that is achieved using cow manure.

Paul Mesarcik, an engineering student at UCT came to do an internship with us at the beginning of the year. Paul is involved with an NPO called Engineers Without Borders, run entirely by volunteer engineering students with the aim of improving disadvantaged and poor communities through local projects undertaken by the volunteers. Paul was involved in a project installing a biogas digester in Khayelitsha and after all the challenges he faced implementing that project, he realised what an advantage prefabricated digesters have over the brick and mortar ones also available in South Africa.
